Prepare your phone for a travel eSIM
eSIM support, carrier unlocking and the selected data line are three separate checks. Do them before relying on the phone for the first transfer after arrival.

Identify the exact device variant
Find the model and regional variant in the phone’s settings, then look for its eSIM or Add eSIM option. A shared model name does not prove that every regional version has identical SIM hardware.
Separate eSIM support from carrier unlocking
A phone can support eSIM and still be locked to its original carrier. On iPhone, the Carrier Lock field under General and About identifies whether a different carrier can be used.
Prepare the profile while online
Use a stable internet connection to download the profile and save its setup instructions somewhere available offline. Give the travel line a recognisable label so it is not confused with the home number.
Installing a profile is not always the start of package validity. Airalo describes both connection-based and installation-based starts, so the package’s activation rule controls the timing.
Choose the line that carries mobile data
Select the travel eSIM for mobile data and disable automatic switching back to the home line. Data roaming settings belong to each line, follow the travel provider’s connection instructions and avoid enabling home-line roaming by accident.
Test the connection and then the hotspot
After arrival, turn Wi-Fi off briefly and load a small page to distinguish a working mobile connection from hotel Wi-Fi. If sharing is part of the trip, connect the second device and confirm that it can load a page as well.
A working data-only eSIM does not by itself provide a local phone number or SMS service. Keep that requirement separate when planning calls, account access and bookings.
